This blog will be used to chronicle a new path in my marital life. My husband and I own 7 rental units currently. He does the management for all of them. I am only peripherally involved. He has also flipped a house in 2011, during the worst economy and real estate market in recent memory, he made a 10% profit. He knows next to nothing about construction. I do almost all of the home repairs in our house! He had to pay someone to do EVERYTHING and still made 10%.
So, we looked at the facts: we both have good jobs that we are unlikely to lose in spite of the economy, we are both workaholics, have just reconciled after a separation, one of our sons is a high school senior and is looking at expense schools far away, and the other is a sophomore at a private college nearby. Naturally, we decided that he would quit his job and continue his real estate business full time.
This blog is going to be an online journal of our adventures. Funny & tragic stories about tenants. Ridiculous stories about disastrous renovations. Repairs gone wrong. You will find it all here. Maybe some words of advice for those of you who might be considering a similar line of work!
Names and locations will be carefully avoided. These types of things can happen anytime, anywhere.
